Damar Apprenticeships, Career Opportunities & Training, Rundlewalker Solicitors Exeter.

Rundlewalker continues to invest in young talent through the Damar Training Apprenticeship Scheme.

‘We’re very proud of this scheme,‘ said Rundlewalker Director, Nick Dudman. ‘There are many routes into a career in law and this is definitely one of the best.'

There are several beneficiaries of the Damar Training Apprenticeship Scheme, and they include the following current members of the team:

Katie Jeffery has undertaken Level 2 Legal Administration Apprenticeship and is now doing the Level 3 Paralegal Apprenticeship, leading to the Level 3 CILEx Certificate in Law & Practice. DAMAR are the training provider and CILEx are the examining board.

Georgina Case has undertaken Level 3 Legal Administration Apprenticeship and is now doing her Level 3 Paralegal Apprenticeship, leading to the Level 3 CILEx Certificate in Law & Practice. DAMAR are the training provider and CILEx are the examining board.

Chevy Bowden has only recently joined the firm and he is studying for his Level 2 Legal Administration, and he will achieve Level 2 CILEx units, with Pearson being the awarding board.

Hannah Williams has just has just started her Licensed Conveyancing Technician course. Hannah joined the firm after many years working for an Exeter Estate Agency, developing a keen interest in the legal aspects of her work. DAMAR are her training provider and CLC are the examining board.

Another recent success as a Trainee Solicitor has been that of Luke Unsworth, who is now sadly moving on to develop his legal learning closer to his family home. Luke says:

'I joined Rundlewalker as a Trainee Solicitor in June 2018. I came to Exeter from Manchester and I had no connections with the city when I moved here.

From the moment I started at Rundlewalker it felt like being part of a family. Everyone was so friendly and welcoming. I immediately felt at home.

My first seat was in Personal Injury. This was completely different from the type of work I had undertaken at my previous firm. Initially I was apprehensive to join the department as I hadn’t particularly enjoyed civil law during my studies but I was pleasantly surprised at how different the work was in practice. A large part of this was because of the support I received by my colleagues in the department.

The girls in the Criminal department also made me feel very welcome. Despite the fact that I had a good amount of experience in criminal law before joining Rundlewalker, I learnt so much from them. They are well organised and leave no stone unturned in the preparation of their cases. The way they fight for clients’ rights and their commitment to do everything possible to achieve justice for them is admirable and something I will take away from my time with them.

The Conveyancing department at Rundlewalker is also going from strength to strength. The way they help each other and work so efficiently is one of the main things I will take away from working with them. Despite uncertain political times with Brexit, they are as busy as ever and they always seem to receive glowing feedback from their happy clients. This is a testament to the high level of service that they provide to clients.

Of course Nick and Sue are stalwarts of the firm and are the backbone of the Family department. Despite me not having a lot of day-to-day dealings with them, I observed their commitment to providing an excellent service to their clients. I learned from their client care skills and attention to detail and hope to be able to implement the same skill-set as a solicitor myself.

In addition to the knowledgeable solicitors, all of the support staff at Rundlewalker work extremely hard and offer invaluable support. Their important assistance cannot be undervalued and they work effectively to put the solicitors in a positon to succeed. I know that I couldn’t have developed as a Trainee without them helping me in the way that they did.

I feel that the training Rundlewalker gave me prepared me effectively for life as a Solicitor and I will not forget the tools the firm has given me to become a better lawyer.

I enjoyed every aspect of my Training Contract with Rundlewalker. It is bittersweet that I am now qualifying, but leaving the firm.'
