Trips & Slips - How you may be able to claim
An accident in a public place
The owners and occupiers of buildings and other areas open to the public have a duty to ensure they are in a safe condition to prevent injuries to members of the public. The same rules apply to privately owned properties open to the public such as supermarkets, adventure parks and restaurants as apply to council owned property such as, parks, libraries and schools. Common accidents inside public buildings include instances where liquid has been left or spilt on the floor without any warnings signs around it and someone has slipped or tripped on loose/lifted carpet. Other cases can include children using defective equipment at school.
You can also bring a claim if you have been injured in an accident whilst abroad.
If you have been injured in a public place due to no fault of your own and would like to know if you are entitled to make a claim for compensation
To make a successful personal injury compensation claim, you would need to prove that another person was responsible for your personal injury (in this case, the owner or occupier of the property where your accident happened). To help your case, you should report the accident to the staff or owner at the time, make a note of your accident in the accident book if possible, take names and addresses of witnesses to the accident and if possible take photographs of the area where the accident happened.
